Emilio
Pucci: a story which began in 1947 with the chance photograph
of a woman in an outfit of his design, is still evolving. Known
for over 30 years as the "Prince of Prints", Emilio
Pucci put his famed signature "Emilio" on all his creations,
from clothing to carpets, and from the Apollo 15 space mission
logo to a Ford Lincoln Continental.
Of the many awards Emilio Pucci received, the last one bestowed
in his lifetime was the Council of Fashion Designers of America
Award in 1990, accepted on his behalf by his daughter Laudomia.
In 2000, LVMH formed an alliance with the Pucci family, acquiring
a majority stake in the company. This decisive step has already
begun to enhance and reinvigorate the remarkable potential of
Emilio Pucci. In addition to the historical boutique in New York,
newly designed stores stretching across the globe from Palm Beach
to Saint Moritz to Bangkok, provide luminous backdrops to the
colourful glamour of Pucci. First unveiled in 2001, the Emilio
Pucci furniture collections, conceived yearly in co-operation
with renowned furniture designer Cappellini, mark a brilliant
return to design. Artistic Director Christian Lacroix, of kindred
Mediterranean spirit, designs and is expanding the ready-to-wear
and accessories collections, while Laudomia Pucci is Image Director.
Emilio Pucci has always been part of my design pantheon and aspirations.
I am utterly thrilled by the prospect of something that is very
close to my heart and that has always excited me, namely nurturing
the intrinsic modernity of Emilio Pucci's creations.
